19|1: 19 questions in 1 minute is our blog series in which we interview Impexium staff members. This week's guest is Gabe Thomas, Training Coordinator.

  1. What is your role at Impexium? Why did you decide to join the team?

I am the Training Coordinator. I work with new clients and train them on the Applications that they will be using in Impexium.

  1. What have you learned so far about the association industry in your new role?/ What are you working on right now and how does that impact our customers?

How far wide-reaching associations are and the impact they have on their members. Right now I’m working on a couple different projects:

  1. Getting ready for client training
  2. Documentation
  3. JIRA Testing
  1. What did you do prior to joining Impexium? What was the most valuable thing you learned and how does it help you today? 

Prior to coming to Impexium, I was a teacher with Fairfax County Public Schools for the last 4 years. The most valuable attribute I gained from teaching is patience. I think patience can help with a variety of day to day activities in both our social and professional lives.

  1. Who inspires you? 

My wife Erin, most talented person I know.

  1. What’s the last book you read? Why did you choose it? What did you like or learn from it?

The Shining—I am a big Stephen King Fan. Being aware of your surroundings and interactions with others is important.

  1. What are you currently watching on Netflix or Amazon Prime? What do you enjoy about it?

Last Chance U. I love football, so any show that dives into that genre will usually get a look from myself.

  1. If you could visit anywhere in the world you’ve never been, where would you go?

  1. Who did you first see live in concert?  Who was the last live concert you attended?

First Live Concert = Rascal Flatts

Last Live Concert = Legwarmers (80s cover band)

  1. What was your favorite TV show growing up?

Boy Meets World

  1. What’s your favorite indoor/outdoor activity?

Physical activity outside (Working out, hiking, etc.)

  1. What would you most like to tell yourself at age 13?

I wouldn’t even know where to start with that one.

  1. If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?

New language.

  1. If you could have one superpower, what would it be?

Fly, easier to navigate traffic.

  1. If you could go back in time to any era, which era would it be and why?

I’d like to go back to the 90s. The internet was booming, and things seemed pretty awesome.

  1. In the Impexium kitchen, what is your go-to snack?

Not a snack but the Coffee machine is the best.

  1. How do you define success?

Getting better every day. I think it is important to establish goals and to meet those goals dependent on your parameters.

  1. Ten years ago, who did you think you would be now?

Coaching football.

  1. What is your favorite thing about working at Impexium? 

The people. Working here is amazing because you get to interact with others who all have a common goal. When I walk into the office, I feel confident in knowing that each team member is doing their best to help our clients be successful.
